Developing Interview Skills (5 instructional hours)

A youth-led interview of an adult is powerful because the relationship between them can be radically transformed through the interview process. Young people rarely have the opportunity to perform as “question askers”; instead, they are relegated to answering the questions of adults. When youth become the interviewers, adults often have a very different experience of youth and their capabilities. From this new perspective, youth often experience both themselves and the adults they are interviewing very differently.  This three-session non profit youth evaluation training workshop will engage your YPE team in active hands-on activities that will support you to create and conduct quality interviews.  In between the three real-time online sessions you will have the opportunity to try out some activities and share your learnings, thoughts, comments and questions in our online workspace.

Developing Surveys (6 instructional hours)

Surveys are one of the most misunderstood data collection methods. Everyone hates them, but they are used more than any other method because they are “easy” to create—or so everyone thinks! In my experience, surveys are one of the most difficult evaluation methods. They are hard to create because the designer has to develop questions and answers (or the response categories) and write both in a language that is understandable to the audience.  This three-session workshop will engage your YPE team in active hands-on activities that will support you to create quality surveys.  In between the three real-time online sessions you will have the opportunity to try out some activities and share your learnings, thoughts, comments and questions in our online workspace.

Specifics: This workshop includes three one-hour real-time classroom sessions, three hours of one-line consultation and unlimited peer-to-peer support.   Required text for this course is Youth Participatory Evaluation: Strategies for engaging young people, chapter 8.  Click here to purchase the required reading.

Using Journaling, Blogs, Wikis, Facebook In Evaluation (6 instructional hours)

Almost every youth program I know has used journal writing activities to help document their practices with young people. While journals are fantastic sources of data and often support staff members to better understand the growth of individual young people, they are rarely analyzed and, therefore, often useless for overall program evaluation. This three-session workshop provides helpful tips for how to use journal writing, scrapbooking, blogs, wikis, etc. to collect evaluation data.  In between the three real-time online sessions you will have the opportunity to try out some activities and share your learnings, thoughts, comments and questions in our online workspace.

Specifics: This non profit youth evaluation training workshop includes three one-hour real-time classroom sessions, three hours of online consultation, and unlimited peer-to-peer support. Required text for this course is Youth Participatory Evaluation: Strategies for engaging young people, chapter 10.  Click here to purchase the required reading.

Recommendations: It is recommended that you engage your entire YPE team in this workshop.

Using Performance, Video, and Photos in Evaluation (6 instructional hours)

With performance, you never really know what is going to happen. Performance provides a different venue for communication, one that is not so “reality based.” While performing, people end up sharing all types of information. There are some things that we can say during play that we just cannot in real life. This three-session workshop will engage your YPE team in active hands-on activities that will support you to create and use performance, video, and photos in your evaluation process.  In between the three real-time online sessions you will have the opportunity to try out some activities and share your learnings, thoughts, comments and questions in our online workspace.

Specifics: This non profit youth evaluation training workshop includes three one-hour real-time classroom sessions, 3 hours of one-to-one online consultation and unlimited peer-to-peer support. Required text for this course is Youth Participatory Evaluation: Strategies for engaging young people, chapter nine. Click here to purchase the required reading.

Recommendations: It is recommended that you engage your entire YPE team in this workshop.

Approaching Data Analysis and Report Writing Creatively (8 instructional hours)

At this point in your YPE project, you and your team have piles of data—thousands of words and numbers–that have been systematically collected and that describe your particular program and its outcomes for young people. Now what? This five-session non profit youth evaluation training workshop will engage your YPE team in active hands-on activities that will support you to create high quality and engaging reports (online, video, paper, power point, etc).  In between the five real-time online sessions you will have the opportunity to try out some activities and share your learnings, thoughts, comments and questions in our online workspace.
